What are the Benefits of Microban when used in Jacuzzi Spas or Hot Tubs?
LUCITE is the acrylic sheet used to make jacuzzi spa or hot tub shells. i.e. the interior of the hot tub that contains the seating and jets.
While LUCITE cast acrylic surfaces have always been easier to keep clean than any other materials, the addition of MICROBAN helps keep the shell cleaner still. MICROBAN inhibits the growth of bacteria that cause stain and odor, so jacuzzi spas or hot tubs resist bacterial growth between cleanings.
The benefit is locked into the material itself and is not washed away like sprays and liquids. It is engineered to last the life of the jacuzzi spa or hot tub, inhibiting the growth of various microbes and protecting the spa surface from bacterial attack.
How Microban Works
MICROBAN is an odorless, tasteless and colorless ingredient that is incorporated directly into a polymer's molecular structure. In this case the acrylic shell of a jacuzzi spa or hot tub.
MICROBAN inhibits the growth of micro-organisms by using an electro-chemical reaction to penetrate and disrupt cell walls and other key cell functions. These cells are then unable to reproduce, thereby inhibiting the growth of the organism.
MICROBAN protection is designed to last the life of the product, and since it is incorporated into the material itself, it does not rub, wash, or wear off.
It only affects the treated material itself. The properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria do not transfer to items that may come in contact with the material.
USE of products made with MICROBAN does not eliminate the need to clean, disinfect or care for products the way you normally would. MICROBAN helps keep products cleaner and fresher between cleanings.
How can I be sure that it is safe?
MICROBAN has undergone extensive independent laboratory testing and has been proven safe. It is registered with the EPA for all applications in which it is used, is registered with the FDA for specific end-use medical applications.
Products with MICROBAN protection have been used safely in medical applications for over ten years. For example, surgical incise drapes, hospital bed mattresses and pillow ticking.
MICROBAN is also commonly used in many food preparation products.
